The Autoridad del Canal Panama (ACP) has commissioned Antea Group to provide the master plan for development of the Panama Canal West Bank. This engineering and consulting contract is part of an extensive canal modernization project.
The master plan will detail the development of a 1200-hectare area along the canal on the side of Pacific. Antea Group will define the strategic framework, assess the area and perform a market analysis. The plan will also establish and elaborate on a framework for commercial and industrial activities. This includes examining possibilities for storage and transshipment of raw materials such as LNG and processing larger freight volumes.
Panama is working hard on expanding its canal. Through this mega project, the Central American country aims to position itself as a logistics hub for the entire continent. Widening and deepening the waterway and constructing new locks should make the channel accessible to the world’s largest container ships. ACP is responsible for the operation, maintenance and modernization of the Canal and works on behalf of the Government of Panama.
Antea Group has staff in the Netherlands and Colombia working on the master plan. Stig and CroonenBuro5 are key project partners. The project's kick-off meeting took place on August 10 and the project will be completed in March 2016.
